So, you’re engaged… now what? After you popping the champagne and celebrating with loved ones, it’s time to get down to business. Planning a wedding can be daunting and scary if you let it, but it doesn’t have to be that way. With a bit of organization, patience, and trust in your chosen wedding professionals, your big day will come together perfectly. Kalyn and Garrett’s Johnson City engagement session got me thinking. Here are a few tips to get you started:
1. Set a budget:
The first step in planning your wedding is determining how much money you can spend. Setting a budget will help you make decisions on the number of guests you can invite, the venue, florals, and more. Once you’ve figured out your budget, make a list of what’s most important to you for your day. This will help you decide on what can or can’t be compromised on to help save money.
2. Hire a wedding planner:
Whether this is a company you hire or a family member/friend that you trust, it’s really important to have another set of hands during the planning. You can’t do it all, so ask for help. Focus on the bigger picture while your trusted planner or coordinator can take on some of the smaller and more tedious tasks.
3. Find your photographer:
As a wedding photographer myself I’ve been around long enough to know the ins and outs of weddings. Find your photographer and ask their advice! Most photographers will also have a list of vendors they have worked with and that will save a lot of research on your part. Photographers are full of information – utilize them! Then plan your engagement session so you can work on your Save the Dates!
4. Choose the wedding theme:
What does your dream wedding look like? Soft and romantic? Bold and passionate? Really think about it. Use websites like Pinterest and Style Me Pretty to grab inspiration, or you can attend bridal shows. I think it’s important to have an idea of what you want your wedding day to look like, then make big decisions – like a date and venue – that will fit into your ideal wedding.
5. Pick your venue:
This is one of the most exciting parts of the planning process. Once you choose a venue and start envisioning the whole thing coming together, that’s when the butterflies really start.
At this point you can put together your guest list, narrow down food options, choose between live music or a DJ. The possibilities are endless when it comes to putting together your wedding. Rely on friends and family to help alleviate some of the stress. At the end of the day, what’s important is that you and your partner say, “I do.”
With love,
Michelle
