Often times you see parents get their newborn’s photos done within days or a couple of weeks after baby is born. The first few weeks can be a chaotic time for many parents. You’re exhausted and in the trenches of adjusting to parenthood. For some, getting newborn portraits done in that time is not an option and that’s okay. It’s never too late to take beautiful photos of your baby. Baby Evie was two months old for her session. She still had plenty of newborn squish to love on.
If you’re feeling hesitant about getting your babies photos done, here’s a few tips to prepare:
Ask your newborn photographer for outfit inspiration.
If you’re unsure of what you or your baby should wear, reach out to your photographer. They can send you ideas and make suggestions. Some photographers even keep a wardrobe for their clients to borrow! This is a big stressor for a lot of clients, so don’t feel bad about asking for help. At the very least, look on a website like Pinterest to see what others wore.
Bring a friend to your session.
Going out with your baby can be overwhelming the first few times, especially for something as important as this. A good way to stay stress-free is by bringing along a friend or family member that can help you adjust. Whether it’s helping get the baby dressed, holding baby so you can take a photo with your spouse, or just having extra emotional support, it never hurts to have a friend around.
Plan naps and feedings around your scheduled time.
Infants can be unpredictable, but if possible, plan to feed your baby 20-30 minutes before your scheduled session. This way baby will have a full tummy and less likely to get upset during photos. You know your baby best, so do what feels right and comfortable for your family.
As a newborn photographer I can tell you with confidence that it doesn’t matter whether your little one is fresh from the hospital or a couple months old. You’ll look back one day and be so thankful for the memories.
With love,
Michelle
