Originally built in 1910 as a county school, the property was later remodeled in 1927. During the renovation, crepe myrtles, roses, and shade trees were planted throughout the grounds, transforming it into the stunning garden venue it is today.

A Collaborative Wedding Styled Shoot Experience

This workshop was led by educator Amanda Watson, who curated an incredible group of wedding creatives to bring the vision to life. Event design and planning were led by Christina Leigh Events, whose eye for design and professionalism elevated every detail of the shoot. Her styling perfectly complemented the historic garden setting of River Oaks Garden Club, creating a cohesive and elegant wedding aesthetic that felt both timeless and inspiring.

Stepping Into a Houston Wedding Workshop

This workshop took place in March, and it was my first time experiencing Houston in the spring. Coming from East Tennessee, I was surprised by the warm Texas weather, definitely a change from sweaters and jeans back home. What made this experience even more meaningful was that it was a last-minute decision. After encouragement from my friend Karen Ann Photography, I signed up just five days before the workshop, and it turned out to be one of the best decisions I’ve made for my growth as a photographer.

Growth, Mentorship, and Creative Inspiration

Working with Amanda Watson was incredibly impactful. Not only is she an experienced educator, but she is also a genuine and encouraging mentor. Her guidance helped me refine my approach to photography and gain clarity in my business direction. This experience reminded me of the importance of investing in yourself, even when it feels uncertain. Choosing growth over fear made this workshop a turning point in my journey as a wedding photographer.
