The Millstone Wedding Venue in Limestone, TN | Historic East Tennessee Wedding Venue
Today I’m excited to share one of the most beautiful historic wedding venues in East Tennessee. The Millstone wedding venue in Limestone, TN. This incredible location is quickly becoming a favorite for couples planning weddings in East Tennessee, as well as for Kingsport TN wedding photographers and Johnson City TN wedding photographers looking for a unique and meaningful backdrop. I love this venue so much that I’m actually planning a styled shoot here at the end of the month. I can’t wait to bring a creative vision to life in such a historic and inspiring space.
A Historic Wedding Venue in Limestone, TN
The Millstone has been part of the Limestone, Tennessee community since 1811, when it was originally built by Thomas Brabson. The mill was powered by a 15-foot wooden overshot water wheel, and the race supplying water was hand dug for a quarter mile upstream from Carson Creek. This early engineering allowed the mill to power two sets of grinding stones, serving the local farming community that relied on it for flour production.
Throughout its long history, The Millstone wedding venue in Limestone TN has played many roles. During the Civil War, it was occupied by a Michigan Union regiment. In the early 1900s, it was sold to the Gray family and later operated as Gray and Son Milling Co. It even served as a post office in 1910, with the original teller counter still preserved and now repurposed as a bathroom vanity inside the venue.
Restoration of The Millstone Wedding Venue
In 2010, William and Danielle purchased the deteriorating mill and began an extensive restoration project to preserve its historic character while making it usable as a modern event space. Their restoration of The Millstone wedding venue in Limestone TN included stabilizing the original structure, replacing damaged beams with historically appropriate materials, and dismantling later additions that were not part of the original mill. The roof was completely rebuilt, siding was replaced, and all electrical and plumbing systems were updated. One of the most impressive parts of the restoration is how much of the original material was preserved. Flooring, millwork, and siding were carefully reused, and original milling equipment was incorporated into the decor to maintain the authenticity of the space.
