Erwin TN Wedding Photographer | Beauty Spot Engagement Session

October has been such a busy and beautiful season here in East Tennessee! As an Erwin TN wedding photographer, I always love this time of year, but this session felt more like summer. The day of Lexi and Tyler’s engagement session was nearly 80 degrees, even in mid-October!

We photographed their engagement session at Beauty Spot in Erwin, Tennessee, one of the most scenic mountain locations in the area. It’s the perfect spot for couples who love wide-open views and that dreamy East Tennessee landscape.

The first time I really got to spend time with Lexi and Tyler was during this session, and I absolutely loved hearing their story. They actually met on social media, where Tyler messaged Lexi for about three months before she finally agreed to meet him at a restaurant where he worked. She didn’t plan on seeing him again, but thanks to a little encouragement from her mom, she gave him a real first date. Instead of watching a movie like they planned, they spent the entire night talking, and they’ve been together ever since.

Now I have to tell this story because it pretty much sums up how their session started!

The drive to Erwin is about an hour for me, and on the way I made the questionable decision to eat chocolate (my weakness) and drink an entire bottle of water. I met Lexi and Tyler at Walgreens in downtown Erwin so I could follow them up to Beauty Spot. What I didn’t realize? There are no restrooms at Beauty Spot.

So we start driving up the mountain, and I quickly realize I am in trouble. Like… serious trouble. I’m thinking to myself, “This is our first real hello and I might have to run into the woods.” Not exactly the best first impression!

Finally, I gave up trying to play it cool. I started honking my horn and waving them down. I got out of the car and told them, “This is probably the most redneck thing I’ve done all day, but I have to go to the bathroom in those bushes.”

Thankfully, they immediately started laughing, and Lexi’s mom reassured me that it was completely fine, after all, we were in Carter County! Honestly, that moment broke the ice in the best way possible. I knew right then that I was going to love working with them, and I was right.

Their entire session was so relaxed, fun, and full of genuine moments. This is exactly why I love being an East Tennessee wedding photographer, getting to connect with couples like Lexi and Tyler and capture their story in a real, meaningful way.
