As a Bristol TN backyard wedding photographer serving the Tri-Cities and surrounding East Tennessee areas, I get to photograph some incredibly meaningful wedding days, but Sarah and Mike’s fall wedding by the river was truly unforgettable.

They were married on October 29 at a place that means so much to Sarah—a riverside property lovingly known as “The River” in Bristol, TN. She spent much of her childhood there, and you could feel the history and emotion tied to that space the moment you arrived. Choosing a meaningful location like this always makes a wedding day feel even more personal, and this one was full of heart from beginning to end.

East Tennessee weather can be unpredictable, especially in the fall, but their day surprised us with warm sunshine and temperatures close to 80 degrees, just days before November! It felt more like a summer wedding, and it gave us the most beautiful natural light for photos throughout the day.

With the help of Sarah’s mom and their close friends and family, they transformed this riverside property into the perfect backyard wedding setting. Every detail was thoughtfully planned, creating a space that felt both relaxed and elevated. The overall design had a colorful, boho inspired feel that blended perfectly with the fall season. One of my favorite elements was the florals, which incorporated seasonal leaves for texture while still keeping the look vibrant and unique. It was the perfect mix of autumn tones and playful color.

Sarah’s personality really came through in every detail. She wore vintage heirloom jewelry that added so much meaning to her bridal look, and later changed into her “Just Married” Converse sneakers for the reception, such a fun and personal touch that fit her perfectly.

She got ready in a cozy cabin overlooking the river, and it was easily one of my favorite parts of the day. The textures of the porch, the peaceful views, and those quiet, in between moments made for such beautiful, storytelling images. The entire day was filled with laughter, joy, and the kind of relaxed atmosphere that makes backyard weddings in East Tennessee so special.
