In the creative community it can be difficult to connect with other maternity photographers, or photographers in general, that offer support and encouragement. But when you do find that rare ally who roots for your success as much as their own, you hold onto them.
Nashville maternity photographer Nanda and husband Jefferson are welcoming baby girl Oliva to their family of four. They already have two girls, Pietra and Helana, who are thrilled to have another sister. How fitting that someone like Nanda, whose life purpose revolves around empowering women, has given life to all girls.
Paving the Way
Aside from her photography business, Nanda founded SHE the Project. The project came about when Nanda noticed the unhealthy competition between women in business. Society strives to pin women against each other. Who’s prettier? Skinnier? More successful? Who is the best of the best? Because of the expectations laid out by society, women’s insecurities are at an all-time high and self-esteem an all-time low. SHE the Project was born to promote community and collaboration rather than competition.
“Collaboration comes from abundance. Competition comes from an empty cup. We have all heard that empowered women empower, and this is so true! There is no way for us to love, respect and cherish another woman without first loving, respecting and cherishing our own selves!” – Nanda Santos
As women, it’s our duty to our daughters and the generations of women after us to pave the path. Like we have all heard and said, before, “Empowered women empower women.” It is women like Nanda who are breaking the barrier. She has shown that working together towards the same goal instead of tearing each other down is the true way to success. It is women like Nanda who we should be thanking for the glass at our feet.
With love,
Michelle
