Katelynn and Gavin exchanged vows during an intimate ceremony at Natural Tunnel State Park in September. Every detail, from the dress to the table scapes, gave an element of romance and bohemian. The park was a natural fit for the venue. Lush green hills made a beautiful backdrop for their day.
Recently, Natural Tunnel in Duffield, Virginia has become a go-to location for hiking, camping, parties, and more. What started the attraction was the tunnel itself, which naturally formed through a limestone ridge more than 850 feet long and ten stories high over thousands of years. Hence the name “Natural Tunnel.” Evidence of fossils and pre-historic life can be found along the tunnel walls. The railway going through the tunnel is presently used for hauling coal. There’s a long history of efforts that went into making The Natural Tunnel Route.
Aside from the views and tunnel, there are several activities to choose from when visiting the area. Just a few miles from the park is the Clinch River where many go for guided canoeing and kayaking, as well as fishing. In addition to two campgrounds and several cabins, there are now yurts available to rent. Yurts have become especially popular in recent years. Throughout the year there are seasonal guided tours and programs for adults and children, such as wildflower walks, bird watching, and cave tours.
For more than one hundred years Natural Tunnel has attracted sightseers. The park has so much to offer. Not just the tours and activities, but the natural beauty of the southwest Virginia mountains would stop anyone in their tracks.
With love,
Michelle
