If you follow my insta stories on Instagram you know about the longest kitchen renovation known to man! I’m probably exaggerating a little, but it’s honestly taken us forever! After putting the last tile in place the other night I thought about all the things we should have registered for when we got married. I remember the day we registered for our wedding 11 years ago (I feel old). I had no clue what I needed. I honestly registered for crap, can I say crap? Sorry, but it was.
So, this brings me to why I’m blogging about this today. Over the years I WISH I would have registered for things that I never knew I needed until I lived in our home, until after I had my Brooks, and just hanging a picture sometimes. I drove the struggle bus!
Today I’m sharing all the things I should have registered for when I got married! It’s going to change your life, ok maybe I just hope it changes your life, and I hope you register for these things, that way you don’t have to buy them for yourself, like I did.
The kitchen renovation was a real eye opener on all the cookware I had registered for that really stinks. Good cookware is huge! Don’t skimp on it! I’ve recently become obsessed with Calphalon cookware! It’s heavy but not to heavy, it just feels substantial like it will last a long time. Nothing sticks! Which that’s huge for someone who hates scrubbing dishes. I could vomit thinking about it. One thing I will tell you is that whether you go with what I’m recommending for cookware or not, washing it by hand will make it last years longer than throwing them in the dishwasher! Register for at least one deep pan with a lid, one that you can also use in the oven. If you like to cook HelloFresh, or any other meals in that nature a deep pan with a lid will be your best friend. That’s honestly the only pan I use the majority of the time!
I also LOVE Calphalon knives! I have the sharpening ones that are built right into the block! My knives are always sharp! I like that I don’t have to sharpen them, because I would totally chop my finger if I had to do that!
Kitchen utensils: My favorite hands down are all the ones from Ikea! Their utensils are amazing, and CHEAP! They wash up good nothing tends to stick to them, and I’m saying it again, cheap! So cheap! Love them!
Mixing bowls: Make sure you get mixing bowls with rubber grips on the bottom, that way when you mix everything your not chasing the bowl around your counter like I have for the past 11 years lol. Here’s a great set from Ikea at this link (can you tell I like Ikea).
Also get glass measuring cups! I have a set of three that came from aldi that I love! Get a measuring spoon that’s made all in one instead of all 10 of the little spoons on a ring. That’s so annoying trying to find a good place for it among everything else. Kitchen art makes a good one, life changing, really I mean it!
Kitchen appliances I wish I had: Ok, so these aren’t necessarily a necessity, I would much rather have everything on my list mentioned before this and after, but if I would have registered for these things I may have them now! The classic Kitchenaid mixer! Man, my baking dreams would be complete if I had one! If your not planning on registering for a fancy mixer at least register for a good hand mixer! I can’t count the times when I broke my cheap hand mixers making peanut butter pie, and all the trips to Walmart to grab one to finish the job! Don’t be like me, get the good one, anything over $40 should do you well. An airfryer if you have children one day, you will be glad you had one of these! Chicken nuggets and fries, need I say more?
Weird kitchen gadgets no one thinks about: Microwave food covers, it’s a rubber lid that fits over your food so that it doesn’t splash onto the top, genius, just pure genius! Totally worth $10 – $20 I promise you will use them!
Kitchen organization! I never had anything organized before we remodeled, but going into this new one I decided I wanted to get my life in order! The best way to maximize space is to get rid of the boxes. Those boxes are bulky and they take up a huge amount of space that you could be using! One of my favorite organizational gadgets is the can stair stepper, it lines all your cans up kind of like bleachers so you can see everything you have at once instead of digging around to figure out what you have. It also helps maximize the unused space in a cabinet! You can find these at Bed bath and Beyond, The Container Store, and TJ Maxx!
I also really love IKEAs organizational kitchenware. My favorite hands down is the spice rack drawer inserts! I use them for my spices and my kcups!
Vacuum cleaner: I can’t live without my cordless dyson! When you have children you will thank me for the recommendation! Every day crumbs are everywhere after Brooks eats! Sometimes I can’t even understand why, because he didn’t eat anything remotely crumb related lol. This will change your life, trust me! I have the pink one for pets.
Power tools: I can’t stress this enough! No one ever registers for power tools, or tools in general! Ryobi is our brand of choice, because it’s so convenient! Every battery works with their whole line! I would recommend at least registering for a drill, and if you have landscaping they have a really cool hedge trimmer adapter, and even a weedeater. Also, just a simple General tool set would be great with wrenches and screwdrivers. Some things to keep on hand but not worth registering for is, a good flashlight incase the power goes out, plumbers tape, because leaks happen, fire extinguisher (I have caught a few things on fire in the kitchen, more than I should admit), and a stud finder for when you go to hang all those pretty wedding pictures 😉
I hope this helps you as you start to register, or if your already married, or married with a little one I hope you find something here that might make your everyday life a little bit easier.
With love,
Michelle
