Why wedding day family formal pictures are important
It’s been on my heart for some time now to write about this topic. My plan last week was to write about this, but I decided to blog about Travis and Carissa’s beautiful wedding at Sundance Farm (click here to view their wedding).
This topic has come to my mind over and over again after hearing several brides over the years say these photos are just for family anyway. This is true in a since, but I had an awaking moment a few years ago about this very topic that I want to share with you today.
A few years ago I photographed a wedding. It was like any other wedding, timeline was made along with the usual family formal list of pictures. I photographed everything the way I normally would. Two weeks after the wedding my bride sent me one of the saddest emails. Her grandmother had past away, and she wanted to know if I had the portraits of them together finished, because she wanted to display them at the funeral.
At this brides wedding I had no idea her grandmother was sick. At that moment I really realized how important pictures are. Not that I didn’t know before, but I guess I realized that these pictures are such treasures, because these pictures are what we have when the ones we love are gone.
Since that moment I’ve made it a priority to tell my brides that it’s ok if you want more family formal pictures. This is such special day. Your family and friends are traveling from all over to see you marry your best friend. If you want these pictures do them. We can make time for them in your timeline.
Yes, these pictures may be just for family now, but they are also for you. Sometimes we just don’t realize the importance until it’s to late. Think about what pictures you want with your loved ones on your wedding day. Whether I’m your photographer or not, these portraits are just as important as any other portrait on your wedding day.
With love,
Michelle
