Best makeup to wear for your engagement session or wedding.
I get asked all the time before an engagement session or a wedding, what make up should I wear??
Weather your doing it yourself or your having a makeup artist do it. I’m going to give you a few things to think about when it comes to choosing the best option for yourself.
The DIY method…
Pros
- Saving money. Having your makeup done can be a little expensive and it may not be in the budget.
- Buying good makeup that will be new and fresh! I recommend buying brand new makeup if you decide on the DIY method. Everything looks fresh and who doesn’t like having a girl day at Ulta or Sephora? You can also get help there too, on colors and types of mascara! Yes, I have spent an entire hour of my life talking to the girls at Ulta about mascara!
- Not having to leave your house or pay someone to come to you before your session! Everyone likes to keep their yoga pants on until they absolutely have to put “clothes” on. Referring back to the #1 pros for the DIY method for saving money if your on a budget.
Cons
- Having to do your makeup yourself. Not all of you will be like me on this and that is ok. I just really hate to do my makeup sometimes, and for whatever reason I tend to have good days and bad days when it comes to applying my own!
- That Pinterest makeup tutorial looked so easy! Let’s face the facts, in a world full of how to’s and DIY websites makeup tutorial videos look SO EASY! Come on, have you seen the spoon contour video flouting around on Facebook lately? My version of this is pretty different from the preferred result, but I will save that for another day.
- This may cost you time. Believe it or not doing your own makeup may actually cost you time rather than save it. I know when I have a big event or a session with my family, my nerves get the best of me. I just want everything to be perfect! So I end up trying to put my eye liner on five times with the result of me looking like a Chihuahua, because I’ve removed it so many times for perfection!
Calling in a professional makeup artist…
Pros
- Having someone that knows what their doing! They can take that Pinterest tutorial and make it better!!!
- Saving time! This is huge, especially on a wedding day! You don’t have time to hope this is a good makeup day, trust me!
- Knowledge!!! I’ve said it before in the #1 spot, but I’m serious ladies. Makeup artists know what their doing. They are the expert in their field! I know it’s crazy to think makeup is art, but it is! These girls and guys have to know tones much like a photographer. They have to look at your skin, the texture, the color, are you a crier, and pick a product that will go best with your skin type and complexion, AND make it last through your wedding!
- I had to break the rules a little on just having three with each category of the pros and cons, but I think this is a big one! TRIAL RUN!!! Do a trial run with your makeup artist! Most makeup artists have packages to incorporate both your wedding and engagement. By doing this your going to get an idea of what your makeup will look like on your wedding day, and it will be picture ready for your engagement session :).
Cons
- It will cost you money.
- You don’t get to keep the make up.
I don’t think I can pick a #3 con for this one. It’s a pretty good deal I think. I am a big believer on pampering yourself. I’m naturally a money conscious person, but I have learned over the years that I’m worth pampering. Everyone deserves to feel like a princess at least once in their life. What better time than your wedding season. Your worth everything and your worth the investment, if you can budget for it. Go for it! You will hug and thank me later I promise 😉 .
Make up that I love!
As you can see in my picture above I’m kind of obsessed with Tarte makeup. My friend Rachel got me on the Tarte train last year and now I want it all! I LOVE IT!!!
I have sensitive skin and this doesn’t break me out! I was really skeptical to try it because it was something new. If something isn’t broke why fix it, right?
I’m so glad I switched!!! I used Bare Minerals before and I really loved it, but it wouldn’t last. I must confess that I do rub my face a lot so that might have been my problem, but still!
Tarte makeup lasts for 12 hours!!! Yes, through all my face rubbing it will stay when I need it to and not look cakey, fake, or feel gross for that amount of time! I also love that I can wash it off easily too and it’s made out of Amazonian clay!
The packaging is ADORABLE (that doesn’t matter but I love that it’s cute and girly, with an earthy feel).
So there you have it! My conclusion to this is no matter what you choose for your big day your beautiful no matter what! I wrote this because all of these things can be overwhelming, but they don’t have to be. If you ever need help or an opinion I’m only a call away!
Happy wedding planning! 🙂
With love,
Michelle
