If your anything like me sometimes having choices can be stressful! Personally, when I know I have unlimited options I just want to break out in hives! I wanted to do this post to help all the brides out there figure out what exactly you need or want in a wedding bouquet. I have compiled some of my favorite wedding bouquets from this past year into this post for some inspiration (will get to that in a minute).
So what do we look for when choosing flowers and colors. Do we want streamers, bow, no bow, cascading etc. etc. the list goes on! First you really have to think about what theme your going for. You need to have a vision first of where your going and picking a theme is a great start! If your having a hard time choosing a theme just think about your venue. Let your venue inspire your floral design For example, if your getting married in a park, botanical garden or vineyard, the flowers can be kept to a minimum (meaning you can make a big impression with less flowers). Pick arrangements that look like they belong in that type of setting. Clusters of wildflowers may look out of place in a ballroom the same way a grouping of all-white orchids wouldn’t seem right for a barn wedding. See what I mean?
Before talking with a florist it’s always a good idea to do a little research. Make sure you know what your colors are going to be and then search for those things on the internet. I always joke that I am the queen of google, but it’s true everything you need is on the internet! When searching you want to make sure you know the names of the flowers that you like and in vision for your wedding. When you talk with a florist you will want to tell them exactly what colors and the names of the flowers that you like. This keeps guess work out for them and in turn your getting what you want because you have visually seen it beforehand.
Think about the size of your bouquet! If your a small petite gal please think about not getting a huge massive cascading bouquet. I am blunt when I say this because it will take away from you and your not going to be the focus. Your beautiful so let’s make sure your highlighted in the best way with an appropriate sized bouquet 🙂 .
I know everyone has a budget! Or might I say that we start with a “budget” and then we end up with a different amount that is unfortunately more than what we thought we needed. I know some of you ladies know exactly what I’m talking about! I’ve been there too! Everything adds up! (I will touch on budgeting for your wedding in a post very soon).
Ladies it’s ok to use artificial and real flowers in the same bouquet… Yes I said it!! I know some people really frown on the artificial flower thing but if your budget doesn’t allow for all real flowers. It’s ok! It’s not the end of the world your wedding will be absolutely gorgeous and who cares at the end of the day! So YES if you need to incorporate that into your wedding by all means it is ok ladies. I will say double check with your florist because sometimes artificial flowers can be just as much as real depending on the flower. So make sure you do the homework before you go all the way artificial 😉 .
Don’t be surprised if your florist suggests different flowers he or she will be mindful of your budget if you tell them to be. Make sure to bring a notebook with you so you can jot down the substitute flowers from what you originally wanted. This way you can look them up and see if that is something your ok with. When googling or looking on pinterest for these things try putting in key words for example, if you want to incorporate pink poppy flowers but their $7 a flower (I’m not a florist I don’t know prices 🙂 ). Then you probably want to go with something a little more economical. Try googling something like this… flowers that look like pink poppies or pink poppy wedding bouquet inspiration. It’s seriously amazing what you can find on the internet. Keep an open mind!
All florists are not the same! Spend a day and talk to a few! There’s a few locals that I love and always recommend (The Potter’s Shed and Rainbow’s End Floral). I love both of them because they both are completely different from each other. Everyone has something to offer so check them out and see what they can do and get excited about it! Talk to your friends and see who they used and why they used them.
At the end of the day just remember that bouquets are pretty but what’s even more beautiful is your love for each other 😉 . This group of bouquet inspiration has real, artificial and real, and artificial. I wanted to show you everything because I think it’s all pretty!
Happy planning!
With love,
Michelle
