Newborn photography has become especially popular in the past decade. The first few weeks of a baby’s life is so precious and fleeting. Though it can be a really difficult time for the family to adjust, it’s something that most will want to have documented to look back on. Newborn photography highlights the beauty and innocence of that period of time. It’s important to find a photographer that you can be trusted to document this moment in a way that feels authentic to the family.
Posed Photography
Posed newborn photography has been a hit for quite some time now. Props such as blankets, baskets, hats and more are used with various positions and settings. Most families will pick a theme. For example, if dad is a big fan of UT football then different props or outfits can be used to represent that passion. Or if the nursey decorated in a dreamy, angel theme then baby can be posed in a way that it looks like she’s floating on a cloud. There are so many possibilities when it comes to this type of photography.
Lifestyle
Another type of newborn photography, like this session with the Levy family, is lifestyle photography. This is usually done in the family’s home, but it can also be done in a studio. Lifestyle newborn photography really shows the love and connection between the new baby and family members. Natural light streaming through the bedroom or nursery windows provides a certain level of warmth and tenderness in the photos.
Documentary
Last, a third way to capture newborns is documentary style. Everyday moments of the baby’s life is captured, such as feeding, sleeping, and playing. This is a photojournalistic approach to create images that tell the story of the transition the family is going through.
Each style of newborn photography has its own unique characteristics and appeal. It comes down to what kind of vision the parents have for their family. There’s no right or wrong way to capture this special time.
